Picture of a ship, treasure chest, pirate hats, skulls and crossbones
Treasure maps, compass and nautical items

Party Supply Resources

Dress
Pirate costumes or attire of course
Decide before the party whether to have the child attending dress up as pirates to come to the party.

Theme / Story
Set up your pirate theme to resemble a pirate ship or use an outside setting. Always helpful to have woods around, where you can play in and hid the treasure. You can hold a pirate party and just play games and tell a story or you can mix in a treasure hunt and tell the story of Blackbeard and/or another pirates hidden treasure.

Another interesting way to play is to have competing teams of Pirates, so then it could be a race to the treasure. This concept works once the kids get older and are more competitive.

Games and Activities
1. There are a few games you can play using a Pirate Party theme

Pirates need to be able to keep the ship clean and get rid of any rats that might be hidden on board. Adapt the Clean You Room game to be Swab the Deck. You can say they are rats (add eyes and a tail to socks or say they are rotten potatoes)

A game that younger pirates might enjoy would be the Balloon Booty or Bust Game which is a simpe balloon and candy game.

Another skill Pirates need is the ability to have good aim. So have them compete in a One-Eye Pirate War, where they take aim at knocking over the competitions crew!

Want a unique activity that involves several challenges in one game. This game might replace your standard treasure hunt and can be used if space is limited. Yarning for Treasure

If you are planning a treasure hunt you need to set the stage by staging a story about a pirate who hid treasure in these parts and then find or have the kids find a clue. Make sure you have a Treasure Chest for the treasure.
This might help you get started: Treasure Hunt Game and Digital Treasure Hunt Game

Adapt the clues by age group; for young kids 8 to 10 clues should be good and older kids consider 10 – 15 clues and try to include a treasure map at the end to find the final treasure. Want more challenges check out the Halloween Scavenger Hunt games.
