Frosty's Musical March - Musical Chairs Game
Frosty's Musical March
This is a fun game to play with kids that know the story of Frosty the Snowman and enjoy playing musical chairs. Place the all the Snowballs in a circle there should be 1 snowball (white + red) per child. Have each child remove their shoes (keeps snowball from getting dirty) and select a snowball.
When the music starts they march around the circle moving from snowball to snowball. When the music stops the kids need to stop marching and stay on the snowball they are standing on.
If they are on a white snowball they are safe! If they are on the red snowball / hotspot, it is to warm and they melt away and are out of the game. This is always fun as the kids act out melting.
Now remove one of the white snowballs and start the music back up and repeat the process until you are down to two people. (You should have one white snowball and one red snowball)
Once you have two people play the music and when it stops the person on the white snowball wins and the person on the red snowball is out.
Fun Extra Activity
Now, I forgot to mention one of the more interesting parts of this game. How do you decide when the music is to be turned off?
Well as move of you know, Frosty the Snowman lost his powers to dance and move around when his magical hat came off.
So in staying with that tradition, create a snowman and add a hat to his head and have the child that was just knocked out of the game try and knock of Frosty’s hat to determine when the music will stop next.
Please explain this to the kids before the game as you don’t want to stop the game to explain this once you begin.
So after a child lands on the red snowball / hotspot and melt they proceed to where the snowman is and make sure the snowman’s hat is on his head. Then start the music back up and have the child try to knock off Frosty’s hat with a ball or bean bag of some sort. Just make sure that Frosty’s hat doesn’t come off if you hit Frosty as that would be to easy.
If they knock off Frosty’s hat then the music stops if they miss, they must retrieve the ball or bean bag and try again.
When the hat is knocked off the music stops!
Note:
1. The person with the music needs to be able to see the child trying to knock off the hat so they can stop the music.
2. Make sure the kids still playing the game can’t see the child trying to knock off the hat. This might mean you have action in two rooms and need two adults.
3. We suggest playing Frosty the Snowman during this game
4. Make knocking off the Snowman’s hat a little difficult, so that the kids aren’t sure if the music will play for 5 seconds or 30 second.
Anyways it is a fun way to play a musical chairs type game and makes it entertaining for the kids who are out.
Thanks, Jessica
